Over the last years, the program has been finding sustainable solutions for the tourism sector, calling worldwide startups to solve business challenges with corporate partners.
Now, it is going even greener, focusing on saving resources for the planet. The Journey is tackling Energy Transition in the Tourism Sector.
The Journey is an open innovation program, focusing on the challenges faced by one of the main pillars of the world’s economy – the Tourism sector.
EDP will be The Journey’s mentor for the program’ startups and participant companies. This synergy between the Energy and Tourism sectors will allow for a better understanding of the challenges that arise from the Energy Transition theme and unfold real solutions.
Challenges
The Journey is looking for
Startups from all industries and all over the world with solutions to the challenges in the areas of:
Clean Energy Generation
Solutions that could help decarbonize the sector and those that are accelerating the adoption of new and cleaner solutions.
Focus on new energy models such as:
- Solar
- Wind
- Geothermal
- Hydraulic energy
Energy Efficiency
Solutions that could help reduce the energy waste, mainly considering facilities and buildings.
Energy efficiency refers to performing the same or more intensive work with less energy use than expected. Examples of solutions include:
- Photovoltaic solar panels
- Buildings redesign by exploiting natural resources
- Automation of systems, plus light and temperature sensors
- Thermal Insulation
- Efficient lamps, such as solar LED
- Energy monitoring
- Cooling solutions
Consumers Behavior
Solutions that help the customer to track their carbon footprint and make more sustainable choices during a trip.
Consumer behavior is the sum of all perceptions, attitudes and influences that lead people to make a purchase decision. Examples of solutions include:
- Gamification
- Carbon footprint calculation/ monitoring
- Social engagement
- Nudging technique

Applications

It all starts with your online application. We will assess your fit with the program according to specific criteria.
MATCHING & SELECTION
August 12 – September 22, 2022
The TOP 20 startups will be invited to a pitch and Q&A sessions to assess the fit for the collaboration.
The pitch sessions are scheduled for 21 to 22 of September.
PILOT DESIGN SPRINT
October 26 – October 27, 2022
The best startups that participated in the Bootcamp will enjoy 7 weeks of close collaboration with the Partners, working closely with mentors of the program, together with Beta-i’s network.
PILOT DEVELOPMENT
October 28 – December 6, 2022
The selected startups will co-develop pilot projects with the corporate partners, under Beta-i’s guidance and mentoring.
DEMO DAY
December 6, 2022
The finalist startups will have the opportunity to present the results of the pilot projects during Demoday.
